Even though it is a cold month, December is nevertheless one of my favourites of the year: it is festive and feels very cosy, and the holidays, even though they were different this year, are, at the very least, a nice break! On top of it, the days start getting longer, and the new year approaching always brings some hope. My favourite things about this month: The festive vibe: even though there weren’t Christmas markets in Belgium this year, the streets and shops were still nicely decorated, as well as individual houses. In my own flat, I put up cute fairy lights everywhere – you never have too much of them – and streamed a fireplace video from Youtube almost all the time, it was so cosy! Indulging… in gingerbread cookies, spiced drinks and festive biscuits. You can obviously do this all year round, but I was extra motivated this month – and it also made my home smell amazing, which is always a good thing. The holidays also gave me more time to read …
November has always been one of my least favourite months because it is usually so gloomy, the days get considerably shorter, it marks the end of autumn and the beginning of summer [edit: as you can see, I am not ready for winter ahah], and it is definitely not as festive as December. Plus, this year, the country was in lockdown for the whole month, which didn’t help. However, despite all that, it was better than I thought.
What do you mean October is already over? I didn’t even realise it even started! – This is how I would sum up my thoughts and feelings at the moment. I truly feel like this month flew by so fast I can barely remember what I did!
This September felt both like a busier summer and like a cold October, but the “Indian summer” we’ve had at the middle of the month provided a much needed “closure” for summer, and I am finally excited for autumn again! My favourite things about this month: The last summery days: at the beginning of September, the weather already started to get colder, as if autumn was already there. Some days later, however, the sun came out again and the temperatures started to rise. I wasn’t really ready for autumn yet, but thanks to these last few days that definitely felt like summer, I’m ready to start this new season! Plants: I mentioned in one of my previews reviews that I was a very proud “plant mum”, and having new “babies” definitely lit up my days. I get extremely happy (maybe too much considering I’m talking about plants) when the sun shines and I can arrange my pots so that my plants get a bit of sun! They’re growing really well and I also managed to …
And just like that, summer already seems to be over. For many different reasons this month didn’t really go as planned, but I still feel like I managed to enjoy it and take a much needed break from all the things I always feel like I “need” to do. My favourite things about this month: Summer: I always feel like if the temperatures doesn’t reach at least 35°C, it’s not a proper summer. Well, finally we got to very high temperatures, in the South of France and in Brussels. It didn’t last very long but I’m still very happy that I could go out in the evening without being cold! Renewed motivation: in the past few months I struggled to feel motivated for my side projects, which mainly involve language learning. However, somehow, I got super motivated to work on a lot of different things lately. This new impulse gave me so much energy and a whole dose of positivity, which is why I put it on my favourites! Eating out: with the warmer weather …
In last month’s review I said that July was going to be the month of local adventures and of exploring Brussels a bit more… How far from reality that was! I’ve never seen such an awful weather in the month of July, which is really discouraging for local adventures!
Again, I can’t believe it’s already the end of June. I was so looking forward to the summer yet I feel like I haven’t accomplished a lot or done anything recently. It is obviously not true, but I guess I just wished I could have done more. As always!
By the time I realised that we were actually in May, the end of the month was approaching and now I can’t believe that tomorrow will be June 1st! Summer is upon us and I couldn’t be happier about it.
I feel like it was yesterday that I posted March’s monthly review, yet we are already at the end of April and the first real spring month has already flown by. That’s crazy. This month was pretty uneventful, but at least it was sunny!
I wanted to add a new type of content on my blog for some time now, introducing some sort of monthly recap of what has happened in my life, with smaller day-to-day things and adventures.
