Monthly review – November 2020

November has always been one of my least favourite months because it is usually so gloomy, the days get considerably shorter, it marks the end of autumn and the beginning of summer [edit: as you can see, I am not ready for winter ahah], and it is definitely not as festive as December. Plus, this year, the country was in lockdown for the whole month, which didnโ€™t help. However, despite all that, it was better than I thought.

My favourite things about this month:

  • Cooking, baking and food in general: if October was the month of eating out, November was all about eating in. Even though I am not a great cook/baker, I have tried some new recipes this month that made my days better, from the cheesy French dish tartiflette to a classic banana bread.
  • Hobbies: an essential of any lockdown, of course. No wonder I have managed to stick to my blogging goals, as I was stuck at home! The last few months I felt a bit off-track for my goals and hobbies in general, but in November I managed to jump back in, and dedicate more time to the things I love, which felt great!

My latest trips and adventures

  • Again, the biggest adventures I have been on this month were walks with friends, and my almost-regular runs around the park. I am actually quite happy that I managed to stick to my running goals almost each week!

Hobbies and distractions:

  • As many other this month, I have watched two ver-famous Netflix series: The Queenโ€™s Gambit and Emily in Paris. The first one is about the path of chess-prodigy Beth to become the greatest chess player in the world, and it was extremely good, short and captivating. Emily in Paris talks about an influencer who comes to work in Paris in a marketing firm โ€“ light, funny and fashion-oriented, it is a great distraction! Have you seen any of these?
  • Another thing that took up some of my time is the university degree that I started in October on astronomy and astrophysics. I have done the first level a few years ago, and I am currently studying for level 2. I have finally managed to stick to a regular routine, and learn more about this topic that I find fascinating!

General thoughts:

Even though the last few months I really struggled to find a balance between all the things that I wanted to (or had to) do, I feel like I have really improved this aspect during this month. I managed to see some of my friends somewhat regularly, even at a distance, and had some very productive days, which I am quite proud of.

Looking forward to:

  • Green December, starting tomorrow. Canโ€™t wait to take more steps towards a more environmental-friendly life. If you donโ€™t know what Iโ€™m talking about, you can read this blog post!
  • The holiday spirit: even if I donโ€™t know yet where Iโ€™ll be at Christmas, and now that I have a whole flat to myself, I want to feel festive and make my home warm and cosy for the holidays. Canโ€™t wait for gingerbread biscuits, apples and cinnamon, and delicious Christmassy drinks!

How was November for you? What are you looking forward to?

I know what you mean about November weather being all gloom and doom. I can’t even remember when was the last time that I’ve seen blue skies; t’s been raining non-stop. That’s why I am so excited to see the stores and most of the houses all beautifully decorated for the fast-approaching festive season.

I know it can be challenging to stay motivated and on point through such turbulent times, but an important part of coping with adversity and making it through challenging times is to foster qualities of persistence and endurance.

I hope you gonna write more about Green December, I would love to find out about more ways how to improve my journey towards environmental-friendly life. Thanks for sharing and have a good evening. Cinemas, shops, museums, galleries and libraries will finally reopen tomorrow, so it’s a big day for us here in Ireland. Aiva xxx ๐Ÿ™‚

I completely agree with you, and I always find that the best thing about november is the end of it ahah which is also the beginning of the festive season! Shops are also gonna reopen today in Belgium, and I am beyond excited. I feel everyone needs a bit of a festive spirit at the moment.

I will for sure report back on Green December, and I can’t wait to start ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for reading and commenting!

November was actually a busy month for me, as I was working the polls during the US elections, starting my full-time job for REAL, and otherwise staying on top of my health and responsibilities at home. I likewise watched Emily in Paris, but considering that I’ve lived in France before (and understand the expat life), I found the series to be silly and low-key insulting to the French (although if the French would feel the same way about it…). All the same, I’m especially looking forward to December and the holiday season, so we’ll have to see how it goes! Bon courage ร  toi!

Wow, working the polls during the US elections must have been so challenging and draining! I was exhausted at the end of it and I wasn’t taking any part in it! And starting your full-time job for real is great! It can feel very overwhelming at the beginning but I’m sure you’ll get used to this!
I also found it a bit silly and it was a bit insulting for both Americans and French I think… I did enjoy it nonetheless as a sort of frivolous guilty pleasure ๐Ÿ˜Š Hope you’ll have a fantastic month of December and thank you for stopping by!

It sure does sound like you made the most of your month! Glad to hear so much positivity coming from you and I hope that the Holiday spirit will come easily to you starting this month. Really fascinating that you started a degree in astronomy and astrophysics! I didn’t know that it was something that interested you or that you planned on studying right now! Best of luck with these new projects, Juliette! ๐Ÿ˜€

Thank you, Lashaan! I do feel quite optimistic I have to say, even though I have no idea where it comes from, given the current state of the world ๐Ÿ˜‚ The degree is actually part 2 of one that I did a few years ago, and it’s super interesting! It is a topic I’m really interested about, and the good thing about this “university degree” format, is that it keep me accountable! Have a great December and thanks for dropping by ๐Ÿ˜Š

Really happy to hear about the home cooking and baking. It is fun, isnโ€™t it? Did you discover any new recipe or? My sister watched Emily in Paris and I think it is only because of the chef guy. I wish the holiday spirit embrace you tight beginning today!

It is! And it can be more fun than just “cooking because I need to eat”, which is what I used to do in the past! I didn’t discover new recipes but revisited old ones, or tried dishes that I knew I liked! ๐Ÿ˜Š Emily in Paris is quite fun and I understand people who would watch it only for the chef guy ahah! Thank you so much, and I hope you have a great December ๐Ÿ˜Š

November gave time to organize myself to achieve the last things I wanted to do this year. It was a beautiful month even though rather cold. Thank for your shares. Have a beautiful evening
