Monthly review – September 2020

This September felt both like a busier summer and like a cold October, but the โ€œIndian summerโ€ weโ€™ve had at the middle of the month provided a much needed โ€œclosureโ€ for summer, and I am finally excited for autumn again!

My favourite things about this month:

  • The last summery days: at the beginning of September, the weather already started to get colder, as if autumn was already there. Some days later, however, the sun came out again and the temperatures started to rise. I wasnโ€™t really ready for autumn yet, but thanks to these last few days that definitely felt like summer, Iโ€™m ready to start this new season!
  • Plants: I mentioned in one of my previews reviews that I was a very proud โ€œplant mumโ€, and having new โ€œbabiesโ€ definitely lit up my days. I get extremely happy (maybe too much considering Iโ€™m talking about plants) when the sun shines and I can arrange my pots so that my plants get a bit of sun! Theyโ€™re growing really well and I also managed to bring one back to life!
  • My new flat: As I said in the August Review, I recently moved out of my shared house into my own new flat, and I couldnโ€™t NOT mention it in here as I have loved it so much! I spent the whole month arranging and building furniture, putting up some decorations and making it a home, and Iโ€™m really happy about the result!

My latest trips and adventures

  • The current world situation being how it is, I havenโ€™t travelled a lot, but I did discover new parts of Brussels that I didnโ€™t see properly before. I have been at the Atomium one weekend, and enjoyed walking around the city a few days ago during a car free day!
  • Thanks to the warmer days, I was also able (and motivated) to go out more with friends, discover new places, nice cafรฉs, restaurants and bars. There have also been some really nice evenings in the park that definitely felt like summer.

Hobbies and distractions:

  • The cinemas reopened recently so I went to see the movie Tenet by Christopher Nolan with a friend, and I loved it! Many people had told me that it was hard to follow and a bit complicated to understand, but I really like these kinds of intricate stories so I genuinely enjoyed the movie.
  • My Russian classes started again, and this year I went for private classes, so I could study more effectively and at my own rhythm. The structure that it gives me really helps to stay focused and study regularly, which is something that I was lacking when studying on my own.

General thoughts:

Even though I really wanted to get back on track with my side projects, September was a bit too busy for that, and I chose to enjoy the weather and my friends a bit more, rather than staying at home and working on my projects. I will however have to find a better balance in the following months, if I donโ€™t want to end up feeling overwhelmed.

Looking forward to:

  • Autumn! I am now 100% ready to fully enjoy one of my favourite seasons. I canโ€™t wait to wear cosy jumpers and indulge in warm drinks โ€“ something that I have already been doing. Nice walks in nature will probably also be a must in the coming weeks!
  • New adventures: I know, I just said that I will have to focus a bit more on my different projects and responsibilities, but since the beginning of the pandemic I have been hoping for the situation to go back to normal. Hopefully things will be and feel a bit better in October, and I hope I can also travel a bit and see my family. Letโ€™s seeโ€ฆ

How was September for you? What are you looking forward to?

Are you hopeful about the current world situation?

What an eventful month! I’m glad to hear how happy you are about your new home and that you’ve only been having fun MAKING it your new home. Really envious that you got around to check out Tenet in theaters! I’ve been dying to check it out but haven’t yet convinced myself in viewing movies in theaters yet… I think I’m just going to end up watching it upon digital release at this point. Hope October has plenty of great things to offer you! Stay safe! ๐Ÿ˜€

The cinemas here were almost empty so it didn’t feel unsafe at all, so it was actually a great experience! I’m sure you will like it though, even on a smaller screen ๐Ÿ˜Š Thanks for reading Lashaan!
