I wanted to add a new type of content on my blog for some time now, introducing some sort of monthly recap of what has happened in my life, with smaller day-to-day things and adventures.
Ironically, I finally decide to do it during the month where I basically didn’t do anything really exciting, due to this health crisis we are currently experiencing. Let’s call it a slow start.
My favourite things about this month:
- March has never been my favourite month because it is usually so rainy and dull. However, this year the weather started to get better and warmer quite soon, and even though I can’t really go out to enjoy it as much as I would like to, it is always nice to telework with a blue sky!
- The month started with me buying some “self-care” items that made me happy every day, from Bach flowers for concentration, to herbal teas for glowy skin and a new scent. These have helped in giving me a feeling of normality and routine when I had to change my habits for pretty much everything else.
- I have always been a huge fan of variety. I like when I do a variety of different things, it helps me to stay motivated, especially at work. Well, this month has been great for this: I could work on some subtitling and video creation, I had new types of tasks at work, related to the health crisis, and by teleworking I got the extra challenge of adjusting to a new setting and new working hours. It is not always easy but it does keep me busy!
- A few weeks before the country was in lockdown, I finally decided to go running with my flatmates and it has been great! I didn’t know I was able to do it, and going regularly made me more energetic, happy and motivated, even for working out at home!
My latest trips and adventures
- Travel-wise, this month was pretty uneventful, for obvious reasons. I had a few things planned for April but they have been cancelled, though I am still hoping that I will be able to go on holiday in June.
- However, since this is the first monthly review (I will try to keep it regular!), I can talk about the previous months: I had a lovely weekend in Rotterdam in January to see a friend, and my family and some friends came to visit me in Brussels in February, which was a great opportunity to visit the city I live in and discover the nearby Bruges.
Hobbies and distractions:
- Even if my reading habits could be improved and I always want to read more, I have been pretty good in reading regularly. I am currently finishing Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, which talks about four sisters going through life, through poverty, love, sickness, chores and little jobs. Nothing much happens but I love books where you just witness the characters’ lives, so I’m really enjoying it!

- Recently I have also dived back into the game Skyrim, fighting dragons, cooking stews and roaming around breath-taking (virtual) landscapes. The music of the game also helps me to stay focused while I work, so when I finish working, I always want to play for a bit!
General thoughts:
I think most of you would agree: this month has been weird. With the first signs of spring came the lockdown. All of my habits have changed and the past weeks have gone by so fast, yet every day felt the same. I obviously feel incredibly lucky to have a roof over my head, to be able to work from home in a safe environment and I am very grateful for every single person that keeps the world go round these days, from postmen and postwomen to health workers.
Looking forward to:
- Spring: it has already started but the best is, I think, yet to come. Near Brussels there is a forest where thousands of bluebells bloom around April, which I really want to see, if possible. If not, I still have a pretty garden where me and my flatmates can enjoy sunny afternoons, and where I want to plant some cute flowers!
- Easter:I had planned to go to Seville but as you can imagine the flight has been cancelled. However, I will still be on holiday around Easter, and take the time to relax, unwind properly and eat tons of chocolate!
How was March for you? What are you looking forward to?
